Berlin-based producers Liza Aikin and Mads Lindgren (Monolog) take us inside their studio to shed light on the story behind their new project, their approach to music production and the debut collaborative release with focus single “Remnant”.
They will release a joint EP on John Frusciante’s LA-based imprint Evar Records later this year, with a video for the opening track “Remnant” out now.
Sharing a Berlin studio together for five years before they started working together, Aikin and Monolog’s work together is a testament to the power of collaboration to elevate creative and technical processes. Two styles collide to create something unlike either, the results are explosive, raw and out-of-the-box.
“I’d consider this record one of my most savage, but also thanks to that, the most technically accomplished.” – Liza Aikin
Monolog, an alias of Mads Lindgren since 1999, is famed for intense, densely layered noise-based experiments that push technological limits and fuse his diverse experiences in metal, noise, jazz and DnB. Collaborating with Aikin was a process of slimming his production style down, harnessing the mesmeric power of rhythmic repetition.
For Aikin on the other hand, a seasoned DJ whose subtly cinematic productions have appeared on labels like Mord and Gegen Berlin, this collaboration was about reaching for new extremes. Given full creative control by Evar Records, the result is raw and unrestrained.
