MANIFEST:IO is the symposium for new media and electronic art in Berlin. The 2-day event organised by transmedial-studio TimeLab took place from 24-25th February at Alte Münze, with a program that featured a series of talks, performances, and an exhibition that highlights new media projects and installations by artists and media researchers. TimeLab creates and conducts applied & theoretical workshops, research guidance, art residencies, media design competitions, open-calls, internships and cross-learning programs.

Founded by architect and media scenographer Basel Naouri, TimeLab is the driving force behind MANIFEST:IO. Their work goes beyond just organizing the symposium, encompassing a range of activities such as workshops, mentorship programs, residencies, and competitions, all aimed at nurturing creativity and innovation in the realm of art and media. Naouri and the TimeLab team are all about collaboration, bringing together experts from various fields – professors, artists, architects, designers, and researchers – to explore the possibilities of transmedial artistry at both local and global levels.

“The word “manifest” carries within it the power of intention and realization. Within our current overstimulated and noisy digital landscape, where new media artists have to navigate a multitude of platforms and technologies in order to create and share our work, we must conscientiously manifest alternative avenues. These pathways should not only prioritize the meticulous care artists invest in their craft but also the diverse trajectories of exploration and innovation they pursue. MANIFEST:IO stands forth as a platform support, advocating for change and egalitarian spaces. Here, we harness creativity as a potent instrument, standing in solidarity with those who resist all forms of oppression and strive towards a more just society.” Basel Naouri & Harshini J. Karunaratne

The 2024 edition of MANIFEST:IO unfolded at Alte Münze, transforming the space into a lively showcase of interactive installations, captivating imagery, and performances that seamlessly blend the human body with technology.
