PREMIERE: Frank Lee Shares House EP “Taken”

Berlin-based, Australian producer and artist Frank Lee shares his new house-inspired EP, “Taken”, on 15th December. Lee is heavily inspired by the masters of stilted, soulful grooves: Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Dilla, Madlib. Featuring previously released singles “Shortcut (ft. J.Lamotta)”, and EP title-track, “Taken”, the release also offers 6 new tracks for the club or the locked-down living room.

“‘TAKEN’ is my most serious and detailed collection of music to date. I grew so much as a producer making this. A lot of it was made during Berlin’s first lockdown, in March 2020. I sat on it for a while before coming back to it at the end of the year and remixing it. I tried to make the kinda album that I wanted to hear: grooves that are interesting, songs that are real and hit hard, and also a few songs that don’t take themselves too seriously.” Frank Lee

Having studied jazz in Sydney and toured as a professional trombone player, Frank Lee settled in Berlin in 2016 and fell in love with the creative freedom and potential of music production. His music is inspired by unquantized, diverse and rhythmically driven Black-American beat music. He creates grooves that don’t make sense but feel good. The music is raw, lo-fi, and expressive; blending Frank Lee‘s wide musical knowledge with contemporary styles of sampling to create cerebral soulful house.
