Berlin’s own Modeselektor are set to premiere their new DJ-Kicks mix via !K7 Records with an exclusive listening session and Q&A at Silent Green. After three decades of electronic music, Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary add another milestone to their legacy with their first entry in the legendary DJ-Kicks series, just as !K7 Records turns 40 and the mix series celebrates its 30th year.
Recorded in their new purpose-built studio, the mix captures Modeselektor’s current approach. “We decided not to overthink it too much” said Bronsert, “and just followed our instincts.” Szary added “When you ask Modeselektor to make a mix, it’s not a normal process.”
The 22-track set gleefully dodges genre boundaries, fusing Kenyan experimentalism, London-rap, Berlin techno, and brand-new Modeselektor material. Expect the messy brilliance of their Kitschselektor debut with KITSCHKRIEG, the glitchy euphoria of “MEGA MEGA MEGA,” and even field-recorded banter from Kingston, Jamaica. It’s not a club mix, they insist, but a story-driven ride built for the car, the couch, or your headphones. “Weird, but not too much” Bronsert said.
That tension defines the mix: Szary hunts ambience and strangeness, Bronsert brings groove and structure. The result swings from Little Simz’s razor-sharp “Mood Swings” to the emotional peak of Beirut’s “Spillhaugen,” feeling timeless, like a sonic fingerprint of 2025. “Don’t skip the tracks” Szary warns. This isn’t background noise, it’s Modeselektor at their most essential.
