Lunchbox Candy Co-Founders Adam Munnings & Elninodiablo Share Exclusive Mix + Discuss Their Creative Process

Since launching last year, Lunchbox Candy has quietly hatched into one of Berlin’s best underground gatherings. From the first few successful events, it has quickly grown to become a genre-unbound communion of souls, solidifying LBC as the new queen-pin amongst Berlin’s top-tier queer events. Fueling the heatwave that’s enveloped Berlin during the past weeks with even more fire and passion, Lunchbox Candy returns on Friday, August 12th, featuring an iconic line up of hosts and performers.

In support of Lunchbox Candy’s return to ÆDEN this Friday, we caught up with the co-founders behind the collective, Adam Munnings and Elninodiablo, to shed light on their music selection, their creative process and what they have in have in store for the future:

Can you tell us about the mix and how it represents Lunchbox Candy?
Elninodiablo:
Adam and I did the mix completely impromptu and spontaneously selecting music that has been well received on our dance-floor. We opened this mix with the spoken word part from the music video of ‘Vaugahyde’ which fully represents our community at Lunchbox Candy. Everyone featured in the video is part of our crowd, whether as a performer / host, friend, lover or regular.

Adam Munnings:
The mix represents our core sound at Lunchbox but it’s just a taster. Playing back to back with Elninodiablo makes makes me reminisce about the times we used to share music and dream about throwing a party. We love to be playful about our music selection on the dance floor so you can expect some extra surprises at the party.

What are you both currently drawing inspiration from?
Elninodiablo:
Inspiration usually comes when I’m out in remote nature for some time and my head is clear- then new ideas pop into my subconscious and start stirring things up. Also through all my personal experiences and relationships, people I collaborate with and events like Burning Man and Symbiosis have been a big source of inspiration. Of course living and creating in Berlin has been a constant influence too.

Adam Munnings:
For me my inspiration really comes from what I see, hear, do and experience here in Berlin. I’m inspired by the complex souls and queer culture that makes this city unique. As artists we have the opportunity to visualize, curate experiences and spread messages that inspire, educate and shed light on important topics. Queer visibility is something I celebrate in all my work.

What can you tell us about your latest video, “Vaugahyde”?
Adam Munnings:
Vaugahyde was our 5th project together and we really wanted to celebrate the community we’ve fostered throughout the previous films. It felt right to turn the lens onto the amazing queer community here in Berlin as a lot of these people are the souls that make up our Lunchbox Candy family.

Also shooting it on 16mm film was a big wish for me and with the help of some extra funding we managed to do that which makes it really special. I cast people that inspire me in everyday life and build abstract narratives around their strengths. It was a beautiful coming together of talented creatives, a massive effort from over 60 people but oh so worth it. I’m really proud of the result.

Have you already started working on your next video together?
Elninodiablo:
A new video is definitely on the horizon but most likely not until early 2023. I am working on a new track right now that I would love to collaborate with Adam on a new music video – it’s all analogue synths and drum machines and it’s starting to take its form. Now it needs to be arranged and finessed and then we’ll start putting a concept together.

Adam Munnings:
Not yet hehe, our creative partnership has now expanded so rapidly with Lunchbox Candy we’ve got a lot on our plate but I’m sure another one is on the horizon so stay tuned.

How would you comment on the way Lunchbox Candy has been received in Berlin?
Elninodiablo:
We are so grateful that Lunchbox Candy has been embraced and is loved by so many within our community – the feedback we have been receiving is phenomenal. As you can imagine it’s a lot of hard work with many people involved for every event, but it’s so worth it on so many levels. It’s fulfilling creating and offering this safe space for radical expression and seeing how the community responds.

Adam Munnings:
It’s been both mind blowing and so humbling. With each party it gets bigger and better and we’re trying to continuously improve as our baby grows. Berlin has such a thriving nightlife culture and the fact that Lunchbox has been so well received is proof that there is still room to grow and bring new ideas to the table. The most important thing to us is to provide a safe space for queer creatives and allies to come together and connect on many levels.

What can we expect for the next party on August 12th?
Adam Munnings:
It will definitely be a hot and sweaty one! It’s our last chance to really make use of the beautiful Æden garden so we’re opening our doors at 7pm. We have an iconic lineup of hosts with unannounced performances all night. A killer DJ lineup that will keep you dancing well into Saturday and of course a high energy, love bursting vibe where all the cities will be living their best lives 🙂

Elninodiablo:
We expect people to come and have their souls cooked, literally and metaphorically !
Our line up of hosts, performers and DJs is hot, hot, hot….the euphoria and adrenalin meter will be off the charts. Get ready !!!!
