Mansur Brown truly embodies a musical prodigy. A classically trained guitarist and multi-disciplinary artist, he masterfully combines virtuosic skill with nuanced emotional expression. Hailing from and still residing in South London, Mansur’s unique style of composition seamlessly integrates complex, flamenco-inspired guitar work with innovative production techniques. His music reflects a diverse range of influences—from the percussive beats of early 2000s Timbaland, to the rhythmic dynamism of Afrobeats, to the haunting soundscapes of Burial. “Sometimes my music has a club feel, other times it’s more introspective,” he explains. “But running through all of it are feelings of happiness, of gratitude. I want it to feel rejuvenating.”
While the guitar is central to Mansur’s music, it’s just one facet of his artistic repertoire. As a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, his 2021 album Heiwa showcases his versatility with keyboards, flutes, saxophones, and even vocals—employing pitch-shifting techniques to nod to his favorite R&B tracks. This independence permeates all aspects of his work, prompting him to establish his own label, AMAI (meaning ‘sweet’ in Japanese). Through AMAI, he aims to release not only music but also film, artwork, and even technology and code. Mansur explains, “In the music industry, people really like genres – they like to define things, put things in boxes. Being able to start a label, in this climate where everything’s in a box, it gives me the freedom to innovate and explore concepts. To do it my way.”
