After nearly a decade as part of the UK artist collective, PC Music, NYC-based singer, performance artist, designer, songwriter and DJ, Hayden Dunham now ventures into the spotlight with her solo musical project, HYD.
For HYD, making music was not originally her main creative outlet, with installations and performances at MoMa in New York and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, among others. Her work in music during that time was limited to singing vocals on PC Music founder, A.G. Cook’s two solo albums. It wasn’t until an eye operation resulted in temporary blindness that she focused on music: “where I couldn’t pursue my plastic work for a while due to the lack of my eyes, melodies and lyrics became all the more important to me” she explains.
HYD’s music is inspired by venturing into eccentricity and avant-garde pop realms, but is more oriented towards classic songwriting than the majority of artists from the PC Music family – including Hannah Diamond, Lil Data and Planet 1999. She refines this under the production hand of label collaborators such as Easyfun, umru, Caroline Polachek and A.G. Cook, to express a blend of electronica and hyperpop, synth-wave, and abstract sound art. In her songs, HYD presents her own identity through shimmering soundscapes and lyrics that explore movement, transformation and the creation of queer ecosystems.
HYD will perform in Berlin at Berghain Kantine on February 9th and we have 2x Double Passes to win. To get free tickets, check IG below:
