Australian multi-instrumentalist Drew McCarty aka Fonteray has just released his debut single ‘Stay Close’ with accompanying visuals. Soaked in analog synths and pulsing bass, the single incorporates elements of indie and neo-soul with saturated danceable disco. Visuals for the single add a cinematic level to the release, with direction from Alyssa Baker. With Fonteray’s debut single ‘Stay Close’ proving a strong debut and another single on the way, the songwriter is one to watch.
Benjamin Ruby is the Berlin-based, French artist behind the Maury111 persona, which he created while on retreat in the French countryside. ‘Erase’ is Maury111’s first single taken from a debut album, titled ‘Desert Temple’, which will be released track-by-track over the coming months. ‘Erase’ is a dark-electronic offering, packed with heavy synths and fluttering vocal passages. Ruby adds: “at first the song was called ‘Erase Her’ and writing it was very therapeutic. Almost as soon as I finished the song, I managed to stop thinking about her. So, I renamed it only Erase.”
JV/ZUU is a London based indie hip hop duo who take reference from contemporaries including Machinedrum, Run The Jewels and DJ Rashad. The new single ‘Lemonade’ is taken from their upcoming EP which promises to be packed with samples, heavy synths, low bass, acoustic drums. The duo has embraced NFTs and are giving fans an opportunity to make income by owning a unique piece of album art which entitles them to a share of JV/ZUU’s music royalties.
Piper King is a 23 year old singer-songwriter, producer, and opera singer based in Long Beach, California. King is known for her haunting, dreamy tunes and cute ghostly vibe. The combination of her honest lyrics about life, love, friendships and death, coupled with her colorful vocals give ‘Not That Bad’ a laid-back summer pop sound, with lyrics reflecting on love and relationships. King will be releasing a music video for ‘Not That Bad’, directed by Derrick Acosta in the next few weeks. Follow her on YouTube to keep up to date.
Downhill is the solo project of South West England based Jon Matthews, a musician, recording/mix engineer who is firmly planted in electronic music, with influences including Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, Goldie and Gary Numan. Downhill began creating electronic music in the early 90’s, at the age of eleven, using programs such as Octamed on his family’s Commodore Amiga computer, after finding a love for various styles of electronica from a young age. ‘Others’ is taken from Downhill’s seventh release in his ’12 for 21′ project, in which he releases a new track on the first Friday of each month in 2021. Downhill adds: “I was inspired by chilled electronic music of the 90’s, with the track being made using equipment of the era. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did writing it.”
Christian Prior has released his latest single ‘Why Should I Care’ alongside a film by Nick Gaven and Jake Graves. Having grown up in a tiny, remote village on the moors of North of England, without much to do and nowhere to go, music became his companion and escape. Now based in London, the jazz and classically trained musician is bringing together a love for jazz, rock, classical music, electronica and traditional music from around the world. Soaring synths, rare grooves, and virtuosic piano solos underpin a vulnerable yet powerful voice singing subtle and well crafted lyrics.
